Kitwe District Land Alliance
Welcome we are dedicated to empowering Kitwe communities for sustainable development. Our goal is to foster inclusive governance, protect land rights, and build capacity through strategic partnerships.
- ABOUT KDLA
The Kitwe District Land Alliance (KDLA) was born out of a critical 2007 workshop convened by the Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA) to address rising land-related conflicts in Kitwe, Luanshya, Masaiti, and Lufwanyama. Founding members included civil society organizations such as Democratic Governance and Human Rights Advocates (DEGHA), Sustainable Agriculture Program (SAP), Caritas Kitwe, and ASSAI, as well as individual advocates Mwana Pabo and Bwalya Mpange. These stakeholders united around a shared mission to address urgent land governance challenges affecting communities.

2020–2022 (GIZ & GFA Consulting Partnership)
Collaborated with GIZ and GFA Consulting to promote women’s participation in local governance within Kitwe District. KDLA designed and delivered leadership training, facilitated stakeholder dialogue forums, and supported the integration of women into Ward Development Committees, resulting in a 40% increase in women’s committee representation.
Program for Legal Empowerment Enhanced Justice Delivery (PLEED) and Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation and Transparency (EnACT) (GIZ/EU, 2017–2025)
Implemented under the “Enhancing Natural Resource Accountability and Transparency” initiative, KDLA trained School Management Committees and Parent–Teacher Associations to improve transparency and accountability in education. This program was jointly monitored by the Office of the Public Protector and GIZ, highlighting KDLA’s ability to collaborate effectively with both government and international partners.
2012–2022 (Multiple Donors)
Executed gender-inclusive governance, land rights, and climate justice projects funded by the Zambia Governance Foundation, OSISA, Global Green Grants, and Zambia Land Alliance. These initiatives have reached over 10,000 beneficiaries, strengthened paralegal networks, and influenced policy reforms at district and provincial levels.
Promoting equitable land access in Kitwe
Invites all stakeholders to join forces in building a land governance system that works for everyone one that is fair, inclusive, and sustainable. Together, we can ensure that land rights are protected, environmental justice is achieved, and no one is left behind.
